Message From the Principal

Dear Families,

Congratulations to all our candidates who celebrated First Eucharist last weekend. We had plenty of support with families, sponsors, staff and parishioners in attendance. It was a beautiful mass, and the students were outstanding readers, speaking clearly and confidently. Thank you to Miss Kempton, Miss Howard and Miss Ukich for helping prepare the students and Mrs Bennett for coordinating the Sacraments. Thank you to Father Tai and Far Dom who led our mass together and made it a special day for all those involved.

Swimming, swimming, in the swimming pool! When days are hot, when day are cold, in the swimming pool! The junior years have wrapped up their fortnight of swimming lessons. While the first week was quite chilly with the winds, the second week has been much more favourable. The students have come back with smiles and enjoyed their time at the pool.

Karratha has been hit by a wave of illness with reports of COVID and flu in the community. One thing we’ve learnt about COVID is that it is most contagious in the onset. If your child has been in contact with someone who has COVID and then become ill, please keep them home. This will help stop the spread. This week there has also been cases of tummy bugs. Once you are contacted by the Office to collect your child, please advise if there is a delay. This helps to keep the Office in formed so they can comfort the unwell child.

Thank you families for turning left when leaving the carpark and helping traffic flow and safety.

Once again reaching out to see if we have an artistic parents who can help with painting a mural/message on a wall at school. Please get in touch if you are able to help out.

With calm days ahead, I look forward to hearing a few fishing stories from the students next week. Have a great weekend.

Sacrament Of Confirmation

Our Year Six students are getting ready to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

When children are Confirmed, they are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Their Baptismal promises are renewed, and their spirit is strengthened to practice their Catholic faith in all aspects of their lives.

Our Parent/Child Information Night will be held next Wednesday, June 19th at St Paul’s Church, starting at 6:15pm.

If you would like your child to receive this sacrament, please complete an enrolment form and pay the administration fee of $35 via QuickCliq.

If you have any queries or questions, please contact Mrs Bennett via email – clare.bennett@cewa.edu.au

Student Absences

At St Paul’s Primary School, we recognise and are sympathetic to the fact that legitimate illness and family emergencies are valid reasons for your child not attending school.

However, as partners with you in the education of your child, it is important to point out that reduced attendance and consistent late arrivals, have a large impact on academic learning.

In order to access the full curriculum, and give your child the best chance of success, Catholic Education WA recommends the rate of 90% – 100% as ‘Regular Attendance’.

When attendance falls below this level it indicates a student may be at risk of not reaching their full potential. The chart below gives a breakdown of the amount of time missed in a year, and if maintained, how it impacts on the future education of your child.

P&F News

The Colour Run has been postponed to later in the year. Once a date is set, more information will be sent out.

ICAS Competitions

We know our students are amazing, so we’re giving them the opportunity to showcase and celebrate their talents in the world-renowned ICAS competitions this year.

What is ICAS?
ICAS is an online academic competition that gives students the opportunity to challenge their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee, and Digital Technologies.

Every student who participates is celebrated and recognised with a printed certificate in each subject area, and an online results report to track development each year. Top performers are eligible for one of the highly coveted ICAS medals.
