Message From the Principal

Dear Parents and School Community,

It was delightful to receive some rain during the week. It has certainly washed the dust off and provided a much-needed drink for the plants. The rain also brought out the insects and some larger animals who sought an easy feed. We have a small bungarra who has been seen wandering around the school while the kids are in class. For the classes who have seen it while moving through the school, the students have been fascinated by visitor. The things you get to see going to school in the Pilbara!

Thank you to all who came for our Year 4 assembly this morning. It was by far the largest crowd we have had at an assembly in my time at St Paul’s. The Year 4 class presented a wonderful lesson about having a growth mindset and thinking positively. Thank you Miss Kempton and Miss Howard for preparing the fantastic assembly and helping the students. It was good to see good numbers taking part in the choir for this year. Thank you to Mrs Beins and the choir for your beautiful singing of the National Anthem.

Our Year 3 students completed their final preparations for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation with a Retreat at St Paul’s Church. The classes were joined by children from the parish who will also be celebrating the Sacrament. Please keep our students in your prayers as they celebrate the Sacrament this weekend. Thank you once again to Mr McGivern and Mrs Davies for preparing the students and to Fr Tai for leading the retreat.

A reminder about the Online Parent+Student information session for URSTRONG Friendology. This is a fantastic opportunity to sit with your child and learn the language of friendship that we use at school. By learning the Friendship Facts and language of friendships, parents and the school can work in unity to support children with friendships. In addition home and school can help students to develop the skills to be confident and resilient young people. Click here to register

There is one week until our major event for the year, the St Pat’s Quiz night. This evening is a great community building event to meet other families and also help to raise money for new playgrounds. The event is open to all so feel free to invite friends. The P&F are still finalising the last sponsorship and raffle items. If there is anyone in the community who would like to donate an item or service to help raise funds, please email Thanks to Polaris, we have an electric motorbike to raffle off. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20. Please see below for more information.

Next week, our Year 3 and 5 students will start the NAPLAN assessments. At St Paul’s, we complete the practise assessments to help students become familiar with the platform. This is to ensure they feel confident during the assessment without worry. The assessment provides a snapshot in time of our students’ achievement and the data is used for helping us measure our school progress over time. Our philosophy is to teach students the dispositions, attitudes and skills that will help them in life.  We don’t put any additional stress on the students by teaching to the test or emphasising the assessment. If a student is feeling worried or anxious about the assessments, please contact your class teachers to work together on strategies support your child.

If you haven’t, please have a look at our new website. The calendar feature has been updated to easily see upcoming events and times. You will see the absentee feature is still readily available at the top. And if you are looking for a staff member’s name, you will find a staff list link at the top of the page. If there is information missing or you spot something that is incorrect, please let us know so we can fix.

Kind regards,

Ryan Powles

Our thoughts are with our students who will be celebrating the Sacrament of First Reconciliation this weekend. Please keep the students in your prayers as they get  ready to receive this special Sacrament of healing.

Project Compassion

Thank you for the kind donations that have come in. We continue to raise money for Caritas Australia, with the class who raises the highest amount earning their very own free dress day!

Our Year Six leaders are doing their part by helping to sell icy poles at lunch time, with all proceeds going towards Project Compassion.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we think about the courageous women who face adversity everyday. Women like Memory, Ronita and Leaia, who work tirelessly to advocate for the needs of their family.

Check out how much we have raised so far, with each water drop representing $10!
